A teenage girl I know was hoping to be asked to a high school dance recently. She told her friend, a boy friend, not a boyfriend, how frustrating it was to wait—she was pretty sure the guy she was interested in liked her and wanted to ask her, and she was just waiting for him to get his nerve up.
“Why don’t you just ask him, then?” asked her boy friend.
“That’s not the way it works,” replied the girl.
“Well, that’s the way it should work,” said the boy.
I happen to agree. Conventions about who expresses interest, who plans the date, who pays…they no longer apply. So go ahead, set a good example for those teenagers by giving the Greenlight to someone. If they don’t return the interest, there’s always another card in the tin and another chance encounter around the corner.
Have you bucked convention and used your Greenlight Card in a bold way? Describe your bold self in Greenlight Card’s Kiss & Tell contest and win big.
